The Lohn Family (Harald, Ann, Erik & Allysson)
KABEELO LODGE – A BRIEF HISTORY
During the 1960’s Stelco Mining (U.S. Steel Company Canada) completed construction of the South Bay Mine road and used it until the early 1980's when the mining operation was closed. Midway through this mining period, land for a lodge was purchased from a trading post, construction was completed and KaBeeLo Lodge was “born” and opened for business in May 1972. From 1972 until 1977 KaBeeLo Lodge relied on local air carriers to provide flying services for their guests destined for a “fly-out” fishing adventure. In 1978 the lodge applied for an air operators certificate (AOC), which was granted, and resulted in the establishment of KaBeeLo Airways, Ltd.
The founding owners of KaBeeLo Lodge and KaBeeLo Airways operated both companies from inception through the 1982 season with ownership transferring to Ann and Harald Lohn in 1983. In the intervening years, and with a new business model, Ann and Harald established KaBeeLo Lodge, Inc. and KaBeeLo Airways, Ltd. as quality operations within a major tourism market. Additionally, they expended their financial assets, time and talents to develop KaBeeLo Lodge into a world class destination for those seeking wilderness adventures in Northwestern Ontario Canada.
In September 2012 Ann & Harald were approached by Erik and Allysson Lohn (son and daughter-in-law) about purchase of KaBeeLo Lodge and KaBeeLo Airways. As of this date the transfer of ownership is underway with all transactions expected to be completed in 2015. As with all previous owners of KaBeeLo Lodge/KaBeeLo Airways Erik and Allysson are committed to the same standards and quality of service that have been the mainstay of KaBeeLo Lodge since inception. They will continue to offer outstanding service and a quality product at a fair market price.
